Our crusade is simple yet impactful: to elevate the role of trades in reducing crime and fostering community growth. We’re not just talking about a one-off event; we’re initiating a movement. By collaborating with us, you’re investing in supporting vocational training programs that offer immediate employment, reduce substance abuse, and provide an alternative to gang involvement.

We’re not asking for charity; we’re offering an opportunity for social impact and community betterment. Let’s not just make “Trades Up” a slogan but a guiding principle for a safer, more prosperous Tallahassee.

Trade schools are where students can earn a certificate or degree in welding, often in a year or less.

The Problem

1. High Youth Unemployment

2. Substance Abuse

3. Gang Involvement

4. Petty Crimes (Shoplifting, Vandalism)

5. High School Dropout Rates

6. Domestic Violence

7. Car Theft and Break-ins

8. Lack of Community Engagement

9. Recidivism

10. Illegal Firearm Possession

The Solution:

Imagine a Tallahassee where youth unemployment is not 3.5%, but close to zero. Where over 47,000 students are not just filling out substance abuse surveys but are actively engaged in building their futures. We present to you “Trades Up” Tallahassee, a transformative event designed to turn this vision into reality.

Promoting local trade schools and programs in a way that is engaging, inviting, and simple in an effort to raise awareness, increase support, generate more funding, and increase participation.

Mission:

To create a transformative event that brings together community leaders, prominent figures, politicians, successful business owners, athletes, and a Trade School or program.

Vision:

Through strategic collaboration we envision an event that not only showcases the power of vocational education but also inspires a collective commitment to building a brighter future. We aim to unite diverse stakeholders in Tallahassee, fostering dialogue and action toward a community where “Trade Schools” aligns with “Trades Up” for lasting positive change.

Values:

Our approach is grounded in values of unity, education, and community empowerment through “down to Earth” engagement approaches. We are driven by a shared belief in the potential of trades to transform lives, reduce crime, and contribute to the betterment of Tallahassee and it’s adversely impacted populations.

Trades like HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) offer decent earning opportunities. HVAC technicians work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of heating and cooling systems. Trade workers such as electricians and plumbers can work in various sectors that require their services.

Goals:

  1. Engage prominent figures and community leaders to purchase and wear “Trades Up” shirts after taking a tour of a trade/vocational institution or program.
  2. Showcase the positive impact of trades through a tour of a local trade program or institution in Tallahassee.
  3. Raise awareness about the importance of vocational education in crime reduction in general and violent crimes specifically.
  4. Inspire collaborative efforts to support local trades and education initiatives.
  5. Raise funds to offset training costs and create more job opportunities within our local community.

This proposal is more than just a transaction; it’s an opportunity to initiate a movement that will shape the future of our beloved city. We eagerly await your support, knowing that together, we can turn the vision into a reality. Let’s make “Trades Up” not just a slogan, but a guiding principle for the Tallahassee we all dream of.
