For dark garments, separate the white underbase from the highlight white. A solid underbase supports color opacity, while the highlight screen should preserve only the white detail that needs to remain bright. Tri-blends and heathers require a different call. When the fabric and design permit it, skipping the underbase and using discharge ink with 156 mesh can preserve a softer hand, but that decision depends on garment chemistry and production testing.
